Media is Maddddd

Had an incredible networking opportunity this past week at the Times Center in Manhattan. As a guest of Audrey Siegel of Targetcast TCM, I attended New York Media Day 2010, newly named Media Madness! The morning kicked off with some coffee and the opportunity to network, which, I have come to learn, is gold!

There were three extremely interesting panel discussions, discussing the Media Advertising Industry from aspects such as metrics and behaviors. I wonder if the iPad was discussed enough? Two keynotes, both amazing, were what topped my morning. Jeffrey Hayzlett, CMO of Kodak gave an entertaining keynote discussing the re-branding of Kodak.

Favorite speaker was far and away Faris Yakob, currently the Chief Innovation Officer at MDC Partners. His keynote, titled "Technology Is A Medium," touched upon the world of media going forward as relative scarcity continues to diminish. Had a chance to speak with him afterwards as well. Definitely came away from the morning with a ton of exciting new information on the industry!

Welcome

Hello there!... Welcome!

As a student in the world of Marketing and Advertising, I am learning more and more everyday. Everywhere we look, we see Marketing and Advertising. Eye appealing billboards (those Donald Trumpers on Philadelphia bridges), risque magazine fold-outs, full pagers in newspapers, and those hysterical television commercials. And of course, media...Media?! INTERNET ADVERTISING! Internet media, a career which I aspire to become a part of, intrigue me most.

Take this morning for instance! I log onto facebook to....you know....check the usual. Maybe a friend request...(I have 556 of those.....don't I feel special!). Or perhaps an invitation to a group or a recommendation to become a fan of a page. And if it's really a good day....maybe even the blessed WALL POST!

Veering back on course, I log on. And on the right side of my screen....an invitation! Not a friend request, or an invite to a dinner or party. But an invite to Happy Hour (it's Cinco de Mayo....I'd love a beer....or 2....or 10) from an unsuspected guest...Starbucks. I take a double take....and have instantly found my favorite advertisement of the last month. Starbucks has formally invited me to attend happy hour with them....between 5-7PM daily beginning Friday. "And to celebrate, they will buy half my frappuccino for me!" What a way of selling your fraps half off huh?!.... I love it!

The whole world of internet advertising is evolving into these ways. Plenty more to share with you as I begin this exciting venture....the world of blogging!!!!
